What this course covers

Course 07 is designed for cleaning operatives who have, or are moving into, a supervisory or team leader role. Supervision in cleaning is rarely taught formally — most supervisors learn by trial and error. This course replaces that with a structured programme that covers the responsibilities, skills, and situations a cleaning supervisor faces.

This course applies equally to site supervisors managing a team on a single contract and area managers overseeing multiple sites.

Modules

Module 1: The supervisor’s role and responsibilities

What changes when you move from operative to supervisor. Covers accountability for team performance, your duty of care to the people you supervise, the line between operational decisions you can make and those that need to go to management, and the supervisor’s role in maintaining contract standards.

Module 2: Quality control and site inspections

How to inspect a site and assess whether cleaning standards have been met. Covers systematic inspection technique, using a quality control checklist, scoring and documenting findings, giving feedback to operatives after an inspection, and escalating persistent quality issues.

Module 3: Managing performance and conduct

How to address performance problems, attendance issues, and conduct concerns within a cleaning team. Covers having a direct conversation with an underperforming operative, documenting verbal feedback, when to escalate to a formal process, and the supervisor’s role during a disciplinary procedure.

Module 4: Scheduling, allocation, and operational planning

Managing rotas, allocating staff to sites, covering absences, and communicating schedule changes. Covers the operational planning that keeps a cleaning contract running smoothly, how to manage last-minute changes without panicking clients, and communicating changes to your team clearly and promptly.

Module 5: Communication with clients and management

How supervisors communicate upwards and outwards. Covers client-facing communication on site visits, handling client complaints at supervisor level, writing a site report, and keeping management informed of issues that affect contract performance or client satisfaction.
