Advanced training for cleaning operatives handling biohazards, clinical environments, floor care systems, and high-level cleaning. Covers the additional risk assessment, PPE, and procedural requirements for specialist tasks.
What this course covers
Course 06 covers the specialist cleaning tasks that carry elevated risk and require additional training beyond the core programme. These are the areas where inadequate preparation leads to health and safety incidents, contract losses, and regulatory action.
This course is not required for all staff — it applies to operatives assigned to tasks involving biohazardous material, clinical environments, hard floor maintenance systems, or above-floor-level cleaning. Completing it demonstrates that your business trains for the highest-risk tasks your team undertakes.
Modules
Module 1: Biohazard cleaning and bodily fluids
The procedures and PPE requirements for cleaning up blood, vomit, and other bodily fluids. Covers Category B biohazard risk, the correct PPE ensemble, spill kit use, disposal of contaminated materials, and decontamination of the area and equipment. Module 2: Clinical and healthcare environments
Cleaning standards for clinical settings: GP surgeries, dental practices, care homes, and NHS facilities. Covers infection prevention and control (IPC) requirements, decontamination versus disinfection, colour-coding in clinical environments, and the documentation requirements for healthcare cleaning contracts.
Module 3: Hard floor maintenance — scrubbing and polishing
Operating rotary and single-disc floor machines. Covers pre-clean assessment, selecting the correct pad for the floor type, machine operation and safety, trip hazard management during floor cleaning, and buffing and polishing techniques for vinyl, terrazzo, and marble.
Module 4: Strip and seal procedures
Removing and reapplying floor finish on vinyl and hard floor surfaces. Covers product selection, dilution ratios for stripping solution, the stripping process, neutralising the floor, applying sealer coats, and drying and buffing. Covers the risks of slipping on treated floors before they are fully cured.
Module 5: High-level cleaning
Cleaning above floor level: shelving, air conditioning units, high-touch surfaces out of normal reach, and light fittings. Covers the Working at Height Regulations 2005 in the context of step stools and small platforms, risk assessment for high-level work, never using furniture as a work platform, and when to refer a task to a specialist contractor.
Module 6: Deep cleaning protocols
The planning and execution of deep cleans in commercial, catering, and healthcare environments. Covers the difference between routine and deep cleaning, scheduling and client communication, additional COSHH requirements for heavy-duty chemicals, and post-clean inspection and sign-off.
Who this course is for
Operatives assigned to biohazard response, clinical cleaning, hard floor maintenance, high-level cleaning, or deep cleaning contracts. Not required for all staff — assign based on the tasks your team performs.
