What this course covers

Course 04 is designed for cleaning operatives who work in private residences. It covers the specific procedures, standards, and responsibilities that apply in a domestic environment — where client trust is paramount and a single mistake can cost you the contract.

Domestic cleaning requires a different approach from commercial work. Staff are often alone in a client’s home, handling personal possessions, managing keys and security codes, and representing your business without direct supervision. This course prepares them for that responsibility.

Modules

Module 1: Working in a client’s home

The principles that apply when cleaning a private residence. Covers respecting client property, maintaining confidentiality about what you observe in a client’s home, not bringing additional people onto a client’s property, and the professional standards that protect your business.

Module 2: Room-by-room procedures

Standard operating procedures for each room type: kitchen, bathroom, living areas, bedrooms, and hallways. Covers the correct sequence, what to clean and what to avoid, handling delicate items, and the most common causes of client complaints.

Module 3: Key handling and site security

Managing client keys, access fobs, and alarm codes securely. Covers key logging procedures, what to do if a key is lost or damaged, how to handle alarm activations, and the security protocols that protect both the client and your business.

Module 4: Client property and valuables

How to work around client possessions, what to do if you break or damage something, how to report damage honestly and promptly, and why attempting to conceal damage ends contracts. Covers the correct procedure for accidental damage and how it should be reported.

Module 5: Client communication standards

How to communicate with clients professionally. Covers what to say if you encounter a problem, how to leave a clean-completion note, managing complaints calmly, and when to escalate a client issue to your supervisor rather than handling it yourself.

Module 6: Managing problems on domestic sites

What to do in situations that fall outside a routine clean: discovering a maintenance issue, finding a security risk, a client being present during the clean, or encountering conditions that make the clean unsafe. Covers the correct escalation process for each scenario.
